I'm so excited to share our own family photos from last fall! We had just moved to Washington and I really wanted some pictures that were totally PNW... think moss, green trees, and gray skies. Well, the weather certainly delivered (but it didn't rain, yay!), and Becca from Lady & Gent Photography picked the perfect spot at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma for our session.
Before I share our photos, I just want to talk about something that I hope will be helpful for any prospective clients out there. On the day of our session, Adler fell asleep in the car and had to be woken up. Needless to say, he was NOT happy. He was whiny and clingy and wouldn't cooperate AT ALL. For the first 30 minutes he wouldn't let me put him down, he wouldn't smile, and he pouted when anyone tried to talk to him. When he finally warmed up to Becca and was in a slightly better mood, he just wanted to run around and play Star Wars and shoot trees with his pretend blaster. Not exactly what I had in mind for family pictures.
What I'm trying to say is this: I GET IT. I know how stressful photo sessions can be. I know that not everyone in the family enjoys them (ahem, husbands?). I know that kids pick the worst time to have a meltdown. I know how it feels to want just one good picture of everyone together but the toddler won't cooperate no matter how much you bribe him. I've been there. I understand. I've photographed my share of families with uncooperative children... and I've BEEN that family with uncooperative children. This is why I try so hard to make my clients feel relaxed and comfortable and make the session as fun as possible for everyone involved. The best thing you can do if your child isn't cooperating is to stay calm and believe that this is NOT the first (or even the worst!) temper tantrum I've dealt with... as a mother or a photographer. Just let me work with your child and you'll be surprised at how many good pictures you come away with.
Since I was on the other side of the camera this time, it was hard for me to take my own advice. But I tried to let it go and Becca was great! She captured some really great images that I love, and you can't even tell that Adler was being difficult. :) I especially love the photos she took of Hadley and Adler toward the end of our session--definitely some of my favorites!

The outfits I picked for this session are probably some of my favorites to date! Most of it was stuff we already had in our closets. Just an FYI... I absolutely LOVE helping my clients pick out their outfits as well! Please don't hesitate to ask for ideas. :)
